As well as the Bodbe Monastery, containing the relics of the enlightener, and the romantic city of Signagi, which has preserved its ancient fortress walls.
What to Expect
Cult Places of Mtskheta and Surroundings
Ancient capital of Georgia - a sacred place for every Georgian and a pilgrimage center for Christians worldwide. Because of the incredible concentration of cult religious monuments, Mtskheta is called the "Second Jerusalem". During the walk around the city, you will learn about the activities of the Georgian enlightener, Nino of Cappadocia, and the history of the spread of Christianity in our land. Visit the monastery church of Jvari, built in the 6th century and immortalized in literature by Lermontov, and hear the legend of the Holy Cross placed here. You will also get acquainted with the magnificent architecture of the grand cathedral Svetitskhoveli, where one of the greatest relics - the Lord's Robe, is kept.
Bodbe Monastery
Impressed by the atmosphere of antiquity and fantastically beautiful views of Mtskheta, you will head to another picturesque place - the historical region of Kakheti. In the village of Bodbe, there is another iconic abode - the Bodbe Monastery, where Saint Nino rests. Walking through the beautiful and well-kept territory of the complex, you will encounter neat flower gardens and lawns, vineyards and household plots, church buildings and a healing spring. Along the way, I will tell you about the emergence and difficult fate of the temple, about the coronation of the Kakhetian kings, and one of the largest repositories of church books in Georgia.
Signagi - the city of lovers
At the end of this spiritually enriching journey, you will visit a small and very cozy town, the only one in the country where the fortress walls have been preserved in their original form. We will talk about the ancient times of ruler Irakli II, the legend of the famous episode from the life of the artist Niko Pirosmani, and the round-the-clock House of Marriage, which is why Signagi is called the city of lovers. And from the observation platforms on the watchtowers, you will have an unforgettable view of the Alazani Valley, where the legendary wines of Georgia are born.
