About this experience
We will not just travel through Georgia, but follow the path of Saint Nino - a woman whose devotion to the Christian faith became historical. We will see the places in Tbilisi and Mtskheta where Nino spread the holy teachings. We will visit ancient churches and magnificent monasteries. Each point of our route is a new aspect of the biography or legacy of the main Georgian saint.
What to expect
- Anchiskhati Church - the oldest church in Tbilisi, built in honor of the Virgin Mary's Birth. The church doors are adorned with a traditional Georgian cross, which, according to legend, was made by Saint Nino.
- Sioni Cathedral - one of the most impressive in Georgia. Here lies the most revered relic of Georgian Christians - the ancient cross of Saint Nino.
- Church of the Holy Cross - a place where the equally-apostolic Nina lived, enlightened people, and healed the sick. There is a women's monastery adjacent to the church.
- Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - the patriarchal cathedral of the Georgian Orthodox Church. At the request of Saint Nino, King Mirian III of Georgia founded the church on the site where the Chiton of Christ rested.
- Samtavro Monastery - Saint Nino spent most of her life here. You will learn which royal figures are buried in the monastery.
- Chapel of Saint Nino (Maklavan) - according to tradition, the saint lived at this location in a shanty she built herself. I will tell you the events that led her to settle here.
- Jvari Monastery - a monument of early Georgian Christianity, built in the 6th century. It was immortalized by Lermontov in the poem 'Mtsyri.' From the mountain on which the monastery stands, there is a wonderful panorama of the confluence of two rivers - Aragvi and Kura.
