Mtskheta from Paganism to Christianity
About this experience
You will visit the ancient capital of Iberia, a place where pagans-Georgians and Jews coexisted, ruled by fire-worshipping Persians. It was in this city in the middle of the Silk Road that Saint Nino came to preach Christianity. Here, 17 centuries ago, brave King Mirian did not fear the country's division and changed beliefs. If you want to fully feel the power of Christianity's centuries-old presence in Georgia and enjoy the symbiosis of religion and nature, then Mtskheta is the most suitable place for this.
What to Expect
From Paganism to Christianity
In the pagan city of Armazi - Bagineti, I will tell you about the traditions of the emergence of the Armazi cult, its significance, and its connection with the royal dynasty that created it. You will learn about the events that took place in Georgia during Nino's lifetime - you will understand who she is and why she is such an important figure in the country's history. Visit two churches, explore all the frescoes of Svetitskhoveli, learn about the saints canonized. I will help you understand the architectural features of temple buildings - explain when and which churches the Georgians built.
Ambiguous History of Religion
When we talk about the emergence of Christianity in Georgia, we usually stick to one version without going into details. However, I have dedicated quite a lot of time to studying the works of various researchers and want to tell you about different versions so that your perception of history always leaves room for assumptions and healthy imagination. You will hear the brightest versions of academics from the 10-30s of the last century, learn about the different interpretations of pagan rituals in Georgia, about discrepancies in the existence of human sacrifices, and finally, about the exact date of the adoption of the Christian religion.
