About this experience
I invite you to a journey through the unusual reserves and natural corners of the island of Rhodes, which will be enjoyed by both children and their parents. You will descend into a valley where thousands of butterflies live near a blossoming lake. You will meet peacocks, camels, ostriches, and be able to treat them with treats on a farm visit. And then we will have a picnic among the Rhodian mountains with aromatic coffee and Mediterranean snacks!
What to Expect
Magical Valley of the Butterflies
In the depths of the island, you will discover beautiful views of the enchanting Valley of the Butterflies. On the slopes here grow numerous plane trees and liquidambars, which with their scent attract and retain thousands of butterflies! We will descend into the center of the gorge, where the main habitat of these beautiful insects is located - a forest lake, overgrown with white lilies and surrounded by ancient storaxes. In addition, in the gorge you will visit a small church built by a Russian officer, where the icon of the Dormition of the Theotokos is kept. In the churchyard, which offers a stunning view of the gorge, I will tell you myths about King Agesilaus and the origin of the Valley of the Butterflies.
Meet the Inhabitants of the Ostrich Farm
Our next stop will be the farm, where you will meet not only ostriches, but also camels, llamas, deer, goats, magnificent peacocks, and other feathered friends. Here, both children and adults will learn interesting facts about the animals, be able to feed the ostriches for lunch, and even take a camel ride.
Picnic Amid the Mountain Landscapes of Rhodes
Before the journey, we will prepare a basket with fresh orange juice, crispy rolls, aromatic coffee, a variety of Mediterranean snacks, and delicious country bread. For the picnic, we will stop near the village surrounded by mountain panoramas, sacred springs, and olive trees. After lunch, you will enjoy the gazanias and feed the fish at the pond, and then see the ancient plane tree of Rhodes, in the hollow of which the first cell of Saint Nectarios was once located.
Tasting Amid the Mountain Landscapes of Rhodes
What can a meeting with Greece be without tasting local wine and ouzo? We will stop amidst the vineyards of the Triandafilu family and try not only wine, but also oil, olives, honey. Here you can also choose natural cosmetics for hair and face based on oil and honey.
Seven Springs of Rhodes
Our last stop will be in the reserve, where we will make a wish in a stone tunnel, take photos at the waterfall, and feed ducks and peacocks at the springs. And the youngest participants can visit the toy museum.
