What to Expect
Secrets of Montmartre and Memories of Artists
The walk begins at perhaps the most famous 'windmill' in the world - the Moulin Rouge cabaret. You will hear interesting tidbits about the legendary establishment and reminisce about the colorful paintings of Toulouse-Lautrec. As you wander up the winding streets, you will visit the places where Picasso, Van Gogh, 'the singer of Montmartre' Utrillo, Renoir, and Repin lived and created. You will encounter scenes from the past on the lively Place du Tertre and meet the 'Man Passing through the Wall'. You will also uncover the secrets of the Swift Rabbit, the Black Cat, and the symbolic drink of the bohemian hill - absinthe.
Picturesque Quarters and the Majestic Basilica of the Sacred Heart
Upon arriving in Montmartre, you will immediately notice how it differs from other districts of Paris - echoes of the former village that became part of the city can still be heard today. We will discuss this, as well as the local vineyards and life on the hill today, as we ascend the numerous steps and meander through the streets. Finally, you will behold the pristine dome of the Sacre-Coeur Basilica: you will learn about the tragic events for which it was built, as well as the architectural features and decorations.
