About this experience
Take a walk through one of the most authentic neighborhoods of Paris. Once a village, it was annexed to Paris in 1860, yet it still retains the spirit of French province with its residents, streets, cafes, and vineyards. In the early 20th century, the affordable housing prices and rural simplicity attracted writers, composers, and artists to this area. Zola, Berlioz, Renoir, Cezanne, Degas, Van Gogh, and Picasso all lived here.
Program:
- Abbesses Square and the eastern slopes of Montmartre. The oldest cinema, opened in 1890, and the first place in the neighborhood where the cancan was danced.
- Pigalle Square. The famous Moulin Rouge - the Red Mill, opened in 1889 with the support of Toulouse-Lautrec.
- Montmartre Cemetery with the graves of Edgar Degas, Alexandre Dumas' son, Theo Gozé, and singer Dalida.
- Climb to the Artists' Hill. The house where the Van Gogh brothers lived, the cafe where Amélie worked.
- The house where the famous singer Dalida lived for 25 years and the square where Picasso met his future lover and model Fernande.
