About this experience
Seemingly well-studied downtown! But we will take you to obscure and unfamiliar places that still remember the history of the transformation of the modest fortress of Mayrit into the capital of a huge empire. There are few such corners, but the route is all the more interesting. Along the way, we will gather treasures - imprints and echoes of the Middle Ages hidden where no one has looked before.
What to expect
- The walk will start in the oldest part of the city: we will explore its hidden corners and squares. I will tell you what was here before Madrid became the capital of the empire. Thanks to local legends and anecdotes, even the most touristic places will shine in a new light.
- We will walk along the perimeter of Madrid's fortress walls and find rare but valuable echoes of the Middle Ages hidden behind the facades of new buildings or in the basement of an old tavern. There, you can take a break with vermouth and tapas.
- You will see the architectural heritage of the Muslims - picturesque narrow streets, cozy squares, and the oldest Madrid churches in Mudéjar style. Upon request, we will visit the Corpus Christi Monastery and buy cookies from the nuns, prepared in a very unusual way.
- We will end the walk in the picturesque Plaza de Ramales. I will be happy to answer your questions, tell you where to have a delicious lunch, and what else non-trivial to see in Madrid.
Organizational details
- The tour is on foot, so it is important to wear comfortable shoes, and in winter, dress warmly
- If we take a break for coffee, beer, and tapas, everyone pays for themselves
