About this experience
Barcelona has gifted the world a vibrant movement represented by the works of Antoni Gaudí, Josep Puig i Cadafalch, and Lluís Domènech i Montaner. In the architecturally rich Eixample district, you will explore the Catalan branch of modernism through the most famous creations of the masters and discover the historical details of their projects.
What to Expect
Gaudí's Masterpieces
You will closely observe the legendary 'House of Bones' - Casa Batlló, learn about the creation of Gaudí's most audacious project and the only work done in pure modernist style. You will hear about the legend embodied by the building's facade and the innovations used by the architect to fully unleash his creative potential. Near La Pedrera, we will discuss the challenges Gaudí faced during construction, the initial purpose, the meaning of its second name, 'The Quarry', and the unique features of the rooftop. And by Sagrada Familia, you will delve into the details of the temple's facades, learn about its construction history, and try to understand the main cathedral of the Catalan genius.
Lluís Domènech i Montaner's Works
Also on the agenda is the recently opened Hospital de Sant Pau as a museum. Next to another Catalan master's masterpiece, you will discover one of Barcelona's advanced hospitals in the past, the mystery of its location at a 45-degree angle to other streets, the unconventional approach to arranging pavilions, and the purpose of the mandarin trees. At Casa Lleó Morera, which triumphed in a prestigious city contest, you will uncover the symbolism of the statues and the place with the owner's encrypted surname. Additionally, you will explore the architect's latest project - Casa Fuster, the most expensive in the city, where we will discuss the romantic love story embodied in stone.
Josep Puig i Cadafalch's Projects
Near the most famous building of the third modernist - House of Spikes - you will learn about the idea of constructing a palace-like building, its residents, and the personalities of three sisters, which can be 'read' on the walls of the structure. At the Discord Block, you will encounter Casa Amatller, where you will examine magnificent ceilings in the Catalan style, hear the story of its owner, and see Casa Batlló from a new perspective.
As a result, you will better understand and feel Catalonia. You will hear about Catalan symbolism, famous festivals, and traditional dishes. You will find answers to the famous Catalan question, discover the differences in the characters of Spaniards and Catalans, and learn about the habits inherent to the latter. Moreover, we will address questions about the city, help you navigate, and recommend the best restaurants and places worth visiting.
