About this experience
The narrow streets of Old Tallinn have not changed for hundreds of years. When you wander through them, it feels like you are in the Middle Ages. We will walk through them, imagining ourselves as residents of the Middle Ages. I will tell you a lot of interesting things about the life of people in that era, and at the end, if desired, you can take photos in ancient costumes.
Program
- We will walk through the ancient streets of medieval Tallinn, and I will introduce you to the history of the ancient city.
- We will visit a medieval pharmacy, the houses of merchants and craftsmen from the 15th-17th centuries, and ancient merchant churches.
- I will tell you about the amazing and fascinating system of air heating in houses and castles from that time period, show you the medieval kitchen, and talk about it.
- I will talk about the city management in that distant era and what people were doing in the 'dark' Middle Ages.
- We will admire our 'old lady' town hall and I will tell you about its secrets.
- We will approach the most popular place among tourists - the Small Shameful Pillory, and I will tell you about funny and serious punishments.
- We will walk the road of sinners, have a snack in the ancient town hall prison with a soup made of elk in our own 'medieval' way, from clay pots with handles, without spoons, and have a pie made of wild meat.
- I will tell you about the medieval well and why it was called the 'Cat's Well'.
- You will also learn about the merchant guilds: the Great Merchant Guild and the Brotherhood of Blackheads - their history and where else in Europe they existed.
- We will walk along the fortress wall, where if desired, you can climb the ancient towers.
- At the end of the tour, if desired, you can take photos in one of the lookout towers of the old city gates of Viru in sumptuous medieval costumes: a knight of a knightly order, the city mayor, or a noble lady in a magnificent headpiece. If you wish, you can receive a high-quality A4 photo in a beautiful cover with views of our city in a couple of minutes.
As a result, you will learn about the joys and sorrows of life in medieval Tallinn, and you will feel like residents of the ancient city, as if in a fairy tale that you don't want to leave.
