From the oldest Philharmonic Garden near the fortress walls of Icheri Sheher to the modern Love Park, from the kaleidoscope of impressions of Baku Boulevard to the cozy green Officers Park, you will stroll through seven picturesque corners of the capital. And I will tell you about the architecture and history of landmarks along the way, about significant personalities in the biography of Baku, and about traditional Azerbaijani art.
What to Expect
Baku Parks: An Informative and Beautiful Route
Parks in Baku are scattered all over the city: a walk through them will not only be a pleasant pastime, but will also allow you to cover the iconic landmarks of different eras. So, the program includes:
- Philharmonic Garden (Mikhailovsky): in the vicinity of the oldest park in Baku, you will see the baroque mansion of Count De Bour, the elegant Philharmonic Hall, the palaces of oil barons and the Baku City Hall, hear the legend of the little French girl's ghost, and meet the local parrots - no one knows how these birds, uncharacteristic to Azerbaijan's fauna, ended up here.
- Love Park - an ultra-modern park, not far from which you will admire the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center, and I will tell you about the features of this fantastic project by architect Zaha Hadid.
- Officers Park, established during World War II: here we will look at the magnificent stone fountain and amusing bronze statues - playing children, tea merchant, chess player, photographer, violet seller.
- Seaside Boulevard - the symbol park of the capital, which the residents of Baku are proud of. I will talk about this national musical art form at the International Mugam Center, listed as a UNESCO heritage site. We will discuss traditional crafts near the Carpet Museum. And while strolling among exotic plants (huge baobabs and cacti, tall olive trees and palms planted here), you will learn about Russian scientists who worked in Azerbaijan in the early 20th century, the legendary sunken fortress of Sabail, the Khazar tribes, and the people who visited these lands - from Marco Polo to Alexandre Dumas.
- Molokan Garden (Kagani): I will tell you about the time when the garden was surrounded by caravanserais and about the Russian influence in the past and present of Azerbaijan.
- Highland Park, where you will enjoy the Flame Towers and one of the best panoramas of Baku - from here you can see how the city, like an amphitheater, stretches along the Caspian Sea bay.
- At the end of the tour, we will drive to the Winter Park near the Heydar Aliyev Palace. You will learn about the traditional flower festival held here annually, the millionaire Gajinski brothers, and a unique 'operation' involving their house.
As a result, this walk will introduce you to the architectural heritage of Baku during the oil boom era, the wonders of the modern city, and stories about the residents and guests of the capital of Azerbaijan. And I will gladly take photos of you against the backdrop of stunning views!
