About this experience
This leisurely tour is perfect for those visiting Baku for the first time and for seniors. You will start with an overview of the modern city (Heydar Aliyev Center designed by Zaha Hadid, Government House, Philharmonic Hall, and more). We will walk up to an observation deck in the Highland Park. You will also see oil derricks and stroll through the historic center as I share interesting stories.
What to Expect
Modern Baku
First, we will drive through the main avenues and streets of the city, following the Formula 1 Grand Prix route. You will see our architecture, famous promenade, and iconic places (passing by the Government House, Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center, Carpet Museum, 'Baku Venice' and funicular, Philharmonic Hall, and Governor's Garden). I will make several stops near the most important attractions. We will also ascend to the highest point of the city – the observation deck in Highland Park, where you will enjoy panoramic views of Baku.
Oil and the City
Next, we will drive to the south of Baku Boulevard, where I will show you active oil pumpjacks and the world's first industrial oil well, dating back to 1846. It's in this location that I will tell you about the oil history of Baku and the Apsheron Peninsula.
Old City
You will then have a walking tour through the historic center. You will admire medieval caravanserais and baths, trading squares, mosques with minarets, and the famous Maiden Tower. By the way, it is associated with many mysteries, legends, and myths. The Old City is not just a museum area but also residential quarters. Walking through the alleys, we will approach House No. 8 on Kichik-Gala Street, where in 1968, slipping on watermelon peels, Semyon Semyonovich Gorbunkov exclaimed his famous 'Devil take it.'
