About this experience
Want to truly experience Baku? I suggest taking a look at the city from a heartfelt perspective. After all, you will be treated to stories about the residents of Baku - kind, fascinating, exciting, tragic, and funny. And the backdrop for the tales will be the most beautiful places in Baku: mysterious stone streets of the Old City, luxurious buildings from the era of the oil boom, the Seaside Boulevard swept by the winds of the Caspian Sea, and modern landmarks.
What to expect
What is Baku without the Baku residents!
The focus of this friendly walk will be on bright stories about the most authentic residents of Baku. Among them, Lev Landau, Richard Sorge, Mstislav Rostropovich, Muslim Magomaev, Tahir Salahov, Vitaly Vul'f, Immanuel Vitorgan, Vladimir Men'shov, Polad Byul-Byul oglu, brothers Yuliy and Mikhail Gusman, Chingiz Abdullayev. But you will also be immersed in stories about ordinary Baku residents, and you will even meet some of them personally: for example, you will visit an artist's workshop or meet the owner of an authentic restaurant.
Colorful stone streets of Old Baku
As it should be, the walk will start from the origins, at the entrance to Icheri Sheher - the Old City behind the fortress walls. You will be captivated by the stories and beauty of the tangled streets with unusual doors, windows, and balconies. The route will pass by famous landmarks - the legendary Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs. In addition, I will show you non-touristic corners and Baku courtyards, where behind the facades, colorful urban stories await you.
New and modern Baku
Walking along the Caspian Sea on the Seaside Boulevard, you will see the Carpet Museum building and Little Venice - I will tell you about these projects. Along the fortress wall, we will pass through the Governor's Garden past the elegant Philharmonic Hall and reach Istiglaliyyat. On this street, you will learn about its names and get acquainted with Bakuvian architecture of the 19th - early 20th centuries, the buildings of the City Hall and the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences. In a part of the city called Bakhsovet (we'll decipher it during the walk), you will experience the real Baku "without makeup". Afterwards, you will stroll through Fountain Square and Nizami Pedestrian Street - hear an interesting history of the Opera and Ballet Theater.
Finally, we will explore modern Baku: you will walk past the Flame Towers, which have become a symbol of the city, and along the Alley of Honor, where we will talk about great Azerbaijanis. Here, in Nagorny Park, you will enjoy an unforgettable view of Baku Bay.
