About this experience
Join me on a journey through the southern region of the Algarve! You will immerse yourself in the era of the Great Age of Discovery and fearless navigators, stroll along the cobbled streets of ancient towns, enjoy the quaint mountain ranges overlooking the ocean, and witness the sunset in one of the most amazing places in the world.
What to Expect
Historic Lagos
Lagos is a tiny, almost toy-like town on the Atlantic coast. I will reveal why it became the starting point of the 15th-century geographical discoveries that forever changed the course of history. The Great Discoveries Museum will complement my stories, where the brightest episodes and heroes of the past will come alive before you. You will then take a walk along the picturesque waterfront, wander through the cobbled ancient streets, and stand at the helm of the famous caravel, on which Bartholomew Diaz reached the shores of the Cape of Good Hope.
Panoramas of the Golden Coast
After enjoying the charm of ancient Lagos, we will continue our journey by car to the Golden Coast. Named for the color of the towering cliffs, it will astonish you with a cape featuring whimsical grottoes and sea caves created by nature itself. Against the backdrop of the emerald waters of the ocean and the light of the setting sun, it all looks simply magical! Moreover, from here, you will have a magnificent view of the entire Barlavento coast—from Albufeira to the edge of the Earth.
Incredible Sagres
Our path will then lead us to Sagres—the city of winds, where Henry the Navigator opened the first navigation school. Here, you will fully experience the power and might of the four elements of nature—the cliffs reach heights of 120 meters, the waves foam and roar. All that remains for us is to admire the courage and valor of the early explorers who sailed many years ago on tiny wooden caravels into the unknown.
Sunset at Cape St. Vincent
The excursion will culminate at Cape St. Vincent—the southwesternmost point of Europe. In the Middle Ages, people believed this was the edge of the Earth, with only the ocean beyond. This is one of the most extraordinary places on the planet where the sun 'falls asleep.' You will enjoy vivid hues of sunset colors, a sight worth coming to amazing Portugal for!
