What to expect
Cascais and Estoril - resorts for kings and spies
From the capital, you will head to the picturesque surroundings of Estoril and Cascais, which have always attracted the Portuguese nobility and celebrities from all over the world. But that's not all: Portugal's neutral position during the war was the reason why spies from different countries often met here. You will learn how secret agents weaved intrigues and unraveled secrets at the tables of Casino Estoril, hear the story of Dusko Popov, who became the prototype of James Bond, and of course, enjoy the picturesque views of Portuguese resorts.
Panoramas of Cabo da Roca
You will drive along the ocean, admiring colorful fishing boats and white yachts, to the famous Devil's Throat - the views from the cliff here are mesmerizing and frightening at the same time, it is impossible to tear your eyes away from them. You will pass by the Portuguese 'Rublevka' and the favorite beach of surfers Guincho, and then through pristine trails reach the westernmost point of the continent - the legendary Cabo da Roca, from where you will have stunning views of the Atlantic.
Pena Palace and enchanting alleys of Sintra
After visiting the 'edge of the earth', it's time to step into a fairy tale - the mysterious Sintra with its colorful alleys, palaces, mansions, and lush gardens with exotic plants. You will immediately understand why this small town was the residence of the Portuguese kings and, of course, visit the most prominent local attractions:
- Pena Palace, built in a unique Manueline style by order of Prince Ferdinand of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, who wanted to give his wife, Queen Maria II, a palace straight out of a fairy tale (and he succeeded).
- Quinta da Regaleira estate, surrounded by legends of Masons, alchemists, and Templars. Here you will find underground tunnels, grottoes, and an underground tower - the 'Initiation Well', which is accessed by a mysterious spiral staircase.
- And sweet tooths can visit an old pastry shop, with a history of 155 years, and taste traditional Sintra pastries - flaky triangles with almonds and baskets with cheese and cinnamon.
