About this experience
Red tiled roofs, colorful houses, famous azulejos, and fresh Atlantic air – a leisurely walk through the atmospheric Porto awaits you. You will wander through the narrow streets of the vibrant district, climb to the best viewpoints, and enjoy warming port wine with a view of the Douro River.
What to Expect
Vibrant Facades of Ribeira
Meandering through the medieval streets of this colorful neighborhood, you will learn all about Porto's history, how Portugal formed and developed, and how ordinary Portuguese people lived and live. I will also introduce you to interesting facts and legends hidden behind the city's facades.
Sunny Riverside
Porto is the city where the era of the Great Age of Discovery began. You will see a monument to the famous navigator, admire the old bridges, and hear about a lively festival in honor of the most revered saint in Porto. Additionally, we will visit a shop of a Portuguese family company, where you will taste delicious handmade chocolate. And of course, I will tell you about one of Portugal's main symbols — port wine. You will learn about its types and have the opportunity to taste this drink in a wine shop (I will recommend which port wine to choose).
Best Views and Azulejos
From one of the city's main viewpoints, you will have a panoramic view of the entire Ribeira quarter, the waters of the Douro reflecting the city's color palette, and the magnificent Luís I Bridge. After enjoying the panorama, you will visit the Carmelite Church and learn about the interesting religious traditions of the Portuguese. One of the church walls is adorned with famous azulejo tiles. I will tell you in detail about their history and role in art during the excursion.
Hogwarts and Historic Café
Porto is home to one of the world's most beautiful bookstores! You will learn how it gained worldwide popularity thanks to the Harry Potter books and movies. I will advise you on the best time to visit to admire the intricate interiors without large crowds. Along the way, we will stop by historic cafes, and of course, we cannot miss one of the most beautiful train stations in the world, adorned with 20,000 azulejo tiles paintings.
Lace-Like Luís I Bridge
A walk on the famous bridge offers a magnificent view not only of Porto but also of the neighboring city Vila Nova de Gaia. You will discover what Portuguese pride is kept there and how the bridge is connected to the Eiffel Tower.
