In the Footsteps of Aphrodite - Individual Excursion from Any City in Cyprus
About this experience
Beauty and love were born here, in Cyprus! From the sea foam emerged the most beautiful Aphrodite: you will visit the legendary place where it happened. Get to know the cult of the goddess, see the ancient mosaic telling the story of Leda and the Swan, and other archaeological finds in the museum. And also, take a trip to Paphos - a former kingdom with a rich history (and it is also connected with Aphrodite!)
What to Expect
For those interested in Greek mythology, I suggest driving through the following route and visiting the birthplace of Aphrodite, her sanctuary, and baths. We will talk about Greek myths, about the culture that repeatedly returns to mythological plots.
Cyprus has the most direct relation to these myths. It is here, according to ancient mythology, that one of the most beautiful Olympian goddesses was born. During the trip, you will hear ancient Greek myths about the Golden-haired Cypriot - this is what Homer called the goddess Aphrodite, and you will learn about the places in Cyprus that are associated with Aphrodite.
Pilgrims from all over the Mediterranean came to Cyprus to visit one of the main kingdoms of Cyprus - Paphos. I will tell you its history, there is much to talk about - old Paphos was the richest city, but the richest and most beautiful place was, of course, the sacred altar of the Goddess of Fertility Aphrodite.
Today, next to the sanctuary of Aphrodite, a museum has been opened, where all relics found by archaeologists are kept. Perhaps one of the most valuable of them is the ancient mosaic of Leda and the Swan, the plot of which became the myth of Leda and the Swan. I will tell you about the symbols of the goddess, and how they are still intertwined in the culture and traditions of Cyprus.
I will pick you up from where you are staying, and we will drive by car to all these places, as well as end up on the peninsula - in the Akamas reserve, look at the baths of Aphrodite, where after her birth she was transferred by the goddesses of the seasons. One of the main charms of this trip is a walk through the Akamas reserve, which is beautiful in any season.
On the way back, you will visit a picturesque place where, according to legend, Aphrodite emerged from the sea foam. Bathing at the birthplace of the goddess of love, you can find a heart-shaped pebble! They say that those who manage to find such a stone are guaranteed success in affairs of the heart! :)
Throughout the trip, you will learn about the lives of other gods worshiped by the ancient Greeks: Zeus, Dionysus, Apollo, Hermes, Demeter, Hera, Athena, Artemis...
