About this experience
Get ready for a rich and diverse 8-hour adventure! Places from Greek myths, the seaside, monasteries with great sanctuaries, mountain villages, panoramas from Olympus - you will tour the entire island, immerse yourself in its past, and learn about the present without dry templates. The day will be complemented by tasting local cuisine and wines.
What to Expect
Tracing History and Myths
You will admire the sea and mountain landscapes, while we will tell you about Cyprus' past. You will understand the historical 'layered pie' from ancient times to the division of Cyprus. No boring dates or lectures, but myths, legends, and intertwining of history and religion. Following the 'living' myths, we will visit the Bay of Aphrodite, where the goddess emerged from sea foam: here you can find a heart-shaped pebble - for love for life, or take a dip - for eternal youth and beauty. Additionally, we will take you to Mount Olympus, the highest point of the island. Silence and fresh air will complement the delight of breathtaking views.
Mountain Villages and Cypriot Life
The Troodos Mountains are a must-see in Cyprus, but even here we will avoid guidebook clichés. The mountain village of Omodos surrounded by fruit orchards will welcome you with ancient stone houses featuring wooden balconies and charming alleyways. We will gladly share observations about the Cypriots: where they work, what they eat, how they think, and relax. We will also show you the mysterious Berenqaria Hotel. High in the mountains, we will visit an unconventional Cypriot tavern with exquisite cuisine and unique colorful interior, serving the best meze on the island!
Cyprus and Faith
Getting to know the island is impossible without monasteries - to fully understand Cyprus' history and culture. In Omodos, you will visit the Monastery of the Holy Cross, where the relics of 26 Christian saints, a part of the Life-Giving Cross, and Christ's Girdle are kept. After lunch, we can visit either Kykkos Monastery, where you can touch great relics, including the Kykkos Icon of the Virgin Mary by St. Luke, relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, St. George the Victorious, healer St. Panteleimon, and a life-giving icon painted by the Virgin Mary during her lifetime; or the amazing Church of Archangel Michael from the 15th century in the village of Pedoulas, where you will see beautifully preserved frescoes from 1474 and stroll through cozy and picturesque village streets.
