About this experience
Octavian Augustus is one of the key figures in Roman history who completely transformed Rome during his 40-year reign. Join me for a stroll through Campo Marzio, one of the most interesting and important districts of the Italian capital. Mentally transport yourself back to the distant era of Octavian - the first ruler of a grand empire that lasted for almost 1500 years.
What to Expect
- Theatre of Marcellus: Our historical walk begins here. You will admire the ruins of the Temple of Apollo. I will tell you how this Greek god is connected to the Roman emperor.
- Portico of Octavia's Sister: I will share the story of the love triangle between Cleopatra, Antony, and Octavia.
- Largo Argentina: We will explore the archaeological area where Octavian's adoptive father Julius Caesar was assassinated. I will explain how Octavian came to power.
- Thermes and Pantheon (external visit): You will see the grand buildings of Octavian's son-in-law and friend Agrippa. Learn about Agrippa's connection to the cult of water.
- Parliament Square: I will show you where Octavian installed the first sundial in Rome - the gnomon. We will see what remains of it and discuss the calendar reform.
- Site where fragments of the grand Altar of Peace were discovered, dedicated to Octavian by the Senate and the Roman people. I will show you where the Altar was relocated after restoration during Mussolini's rule.
- Monumental dynastic mausoleum where Emperor Octavian Augustus and almost all members of the Julio-Claudian family were buried.

Especially striking is Julia's personal enthusiasm, which is why all her tours turn out to be so intere...

This was the third tour with Julia, which speaks volumes. Everything was as always professional and informative. We managed to learn about a significant figure, the first emperor, the heir of Caesar's ideas, Augustus.
