Gladiators and Legionaries of Ancient Rome
About this experience
If you have decided to take a walk along a completely unusual route in the Eternal City, delving into the theme of Ancient Rome, then our meeting is the most exciting and comfortable way to learn much more than the 'standard information' usually presented to tourists!
The theme of Antiquity in Rome, in my opinion, is one of the most interesting! After all, Ancient Rome for thousands of years possessed undeniable power and vast territories, very well fulfilling the role assigned to it by Ancient History as the Conqueror and Ruler of the world!
What was the basis of this global world domination? This question does not have a simple answer, but one thing is undeniable: the Army and Spectacles, Legionaries and Gladiators - this is the foundation on which much of the external and internal state power of the Emperors was based.
Who were these people really? Condemned prisoners or the best fighters of that era - favorites of the crowd? Why were they so highly demanded by ancient Roman society? Why were huge arenas built at the cost of enormous efforts and expenses, and why did some Emperors participate in gladiatorial battles? Only by seeing that era 'from the inside' can one get a sufficient understanding of the customs and orders of that time!
What to expect
During the tour, we will talk not only about ancient Roman 'shows', but also about the practical military art of that time, and once again we will see that legionaries were unsurpassed soldiers, and the Roman army was an example of discipline, endurance, resilience to deprivation, loads, and fatigue.
- Our journey will begin with a visit to the Colosseum, where you will be able to see with your own eyes the arena that has witnessed thousands of gladiator battles throughout its long history. I will tell you about the history and features of the creation of this place, about gladiators and battles.
- Then we will have a photo session at the Arch of Constantine, inspect the ruins of the School of Roman Gladiators, visit the Great Circus - the most capacious ancient hippodrome of the city, where you will hear stories about chariots, races, and horse races.
- We will find ourselves at the Field of Mars - the place where grand triumphs were held in honor of the Emperors and in honor of the victories of Roman weapons.
- We will walk around the Navona Square - a unique place that has preserved the shape of an ancient stadium, and we will end our walk in the majestic Pantheon - the 'temple of all gods'.
Organizational Details
- The entrance ticket to the Colosseum is paid for independently (the cost of the ticket is 12 euros for adults and 7.5 euros for children, and also includes a joint visit to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill)
- I am ready to pick you up from any place in the city center, for other areas of the city, transfer is available for an additional fee
