About this experience
It seems difficult to talk about the ancient times of the Eternal City without unleashing a stream of loud names, facts, and dates. But I will try to introduce you to the unparalleled monuments of the Ancient World in such a way that you truly grasp the greatness of ancient Roman civilization and imagine, even for a moment, the triumphant march of legionnaires, the performances of powerful emperors, religious rituals, and festive celebrations that have become one of the brightest pages in the history of humanity.
What to expect
The Colosseum and its precursor
Near the walls of the largest arena in the history of mankind and the grand monument of the Ancient World, you will learn about the engineering and architectural solutions, the world-famous shows for those who demanded 'bread and circuses,' and the reasons why this, far from being the oldest object, became a symbol of the city. You will also see the nearby Arch of Constantine, where I will talk about the traditions of triumphal arches in Rome and the peculiarities of this monument. Later in the program, you will visit the structure known as the ancestor of the Colosseum: the Theatre of Marcellus, built in the 1st century BC. Furthermore, continuing the theme of ancient Roman entertainment, you will walk through the Circus Maximus, where you can appreciate its former scale and hear about the chariot races that took place here.
The legendary hill and famous forums
Passing by the Mouth of Truth from 'Roman Holiday,' you will approach the Portico of Octavia, where I will talk about its connection to the Jewish Ghetto, one of the oldest in the world. Then you will visit the main of the legendary seven hills - the Capitoline Hill: we will talk about the significance of the place in the history of Ancient Rome, the Senate meetings, popular assemblies, palace ensembles, churches, and sculptures. We will focus separately on the masterpiece by Michelangelo, who created a square full of yet unsolved mysteries. From here, you will have a view of the Forums and Trajan's Column, the history of which you will also hear about on the tour. Next, you will visit Piazza Venezia with its 'wedding cake' - as the locals call the Vittoriano building, built in honor of the 50th anniversary of Italy's unification.
Ancient religious monuments
We will talk about religious cults and the pantheon of ancient Roman gods near the excavations of ancient temples on the territory of the Theatre of Pompey, which have become a haven for cats; the marble Temple of Hercules on the banks of the Tiber River, and the Temple of all the gods, the Pantheon, created during the heyday of ancient Roman architecture in the Eternal City. In addition, near the Pantheon, you will visit the Basilica of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, known for its trials of heretics.
Tips from a local
During the walk, you will not only hear about ancient majestic times. I will gladly chat with you about how modern Italians live in a local bar where we can stop for a cup of coffee. Additionally, I will provide you with recommendations for pleasant establishments and restaurants that you should not miss out on before leaving Rome.
Organizational details
- The tour is entirely on foot.

Excellent tour, wonderful guide! We learned a lot about Rome, without the history these monuments would not have seemed so magnificent. Thank you, Julia! I recommend everyone!

Rome is a great city. Yulia is an excellent guide. Good preparation in history. My son and I enjoyed the tour. If it wasn't for the heat, we could have fully enjoyed the walk 100%. I recommend it to everyone! Especially to those who love to listen and hear correct Russian language! Good luck!

Yulia didn't see us. We walked around each other for 10 minutes. She is a very friendly girl. But when transitioning from one sight to another, our guide was silent. We tried to communicate ourselves.!!! A lot of knowledge about the history of Rome. But there is no interest in tourists.
