About this experience
Svaty Jur is a place where no one is in a hurry. Amid the chirping of swallows, we will walk through the ancient streets, step by step immersing ourselves in the atmosphere of the Austro-Hungarian province. I will gladly share local stories and legends. I will tell you about the kind ghost of Svaty Jur and the famous doctor. And, of course, about wine - it has been produced here for over 800 years.
What to expect
On the wide central street of the town, we will admire the neo-Gothic Town Hall and the mansion of the Podmanickys, where wine was once stored for the Hungarian king. As well as the magnificent Renaissance palace of the Palfy family and ancient wells. We will peek into a typical 16th-century winemaker's house and see ancient gates leading to the vineyards. Finally, we will climb to the medieval church of St. George and enjoy the wonderful view of the town. Along the way, I will tell you:
- What the official and true stories of the town's coat of arms are
- Where they hid wine barrels from tax collectors
- How the townspeople are connected to snakes
- How an ordinary pig saved the legendary Svaty Jur bell
- What rare varieties of wine are produced in the town
A 15-minute walk from the end of the tour are the forest ruins of the medieval White Stone Castle - you can visit them at your own discretion.
