About this experience
Dear tourists and residents of Israel, I invite you to the most famous market in Israel. To find out what's happening in the city, just visit this place. Here, residents come for food, clothing, shoes, and jewelry, and Israeli politicians come for voter support. Here you will see, learn, and taste many interesting things. And there is also the first Israeli skyscraper, functioning sundials, a unique cemetery, charitable dining rooms, and elite establishments.
What awaits you
We will meet at the tram stop "Mahane Yehuda". You will learn who, when, by whom, and why the market and the district of the same name were built.
We will see the mausoleum of Gur Hasidim among the residential buildings of ultra-religious Jews, the yeshiva, and the Turkish hospital. We will try Jerusalem kugel and halva, vegetables and fruits, vegetarian food, and also visit a working restaurant that is 100 years old.
In the hot Israeli summer, we can meet after sunset and stroll through the night market. You will see how the grocery stores gradually close and the pubs and restaurants open. On the closed shop windows, graffiti will appear before you like real works of art. You will hear about the social changes happening in the city center lately and understand how the country's largest market is turning into a trendy place.
If you wish, we can try local dishes and products: hummus at the Rahmo working restaurant, Italian ice cream, and handmade cookies, pita with falafel (a dish of Iranian Jews), knaffe and kubbe (delicacies of Iraqi Jews), burekas (baked cookies of Sephardic cuisine), Sabbath food of Ashkenazi Jews, and of course, halva. And if you want, natural healing juices of Yemenite Jews and even alcohol.
Throughout the tour, you can purchase fruits, vegetables, and souvenirs. And after the tour, continue to walk through the market or relax in one of the noisy local establishments, try the local cuisine, and dance.
