About this experience
Almost no tour in Jerusalem goes without the Old City, but this time we will venture beyond the historical center. You will stroll through Bell Park, peek into the 'Blessed Quarter', admire Moroccan ceramics at Mahane Israel, and cross King David Street, hiding secrets of celebrities. The neighborhoods of New Jerusalem will charm you with their unique allure and share dozens of captivating and ironic stories.
What to Expect
Unusual Parks of New Jerusalem
You will be amazed by the curious corners you can find beyond the walls of the Old City. Our route towards the heart of New Jerusalem begins at Bell Park, Gan ha-Pa'amon: you will admire whimsical sculptures, walk along picturesque paths, and learn a funny story about a bell brought to Jerusalem from distant Philadelphia. And on the streets of Mishkenot Sha'ananim, the 'Blessed Quarter', you will discover the life of Jewish paupers and visit a wonderful park, at the center of which stands a real windmill: you will also hear its story.
'Secret' Railway Station
To explore one of the beloved leisure spots of Jerusalemites from the inside, we will visit an old railway station, now a market-place where restaurants operate even on Saturdays. We will also talk about the history of the station, where the father of Zionism Theodor Herzl arrived in the late 19th century to meet the German Kaiser.
King David: The Spirit of Modern Jerusalem
On one of Jerusalem's central streets - King David Street - you will encounter the swift and dynamic Jerusalem. You will stroll past the hotel where world celebrities stay, and hear interesting stories that happened within its walls. And across from the hotel, you will see a building that resembles a mosque, church, and synagogue at the same time, and I will tell you what it actually is.
Moroccan Vibe at Mahane Israel
A bit further, we will turn into the streets of the quarter built beyond the city walls by Jews from North Africa. In Mahane Israel, you will admire the unique architecture and Moroccan ceramics decorating even the local steps. We will walk along Mamila Street: the local restaurants, shops, evening lights, and strolling townspeople create a special atmosphere. This way, we will reach the Jaffa Gate, where the Old City begins, covering the path from modern Jerusalem to its roots.
Who Will Enjoy This Walk
This route is particularly suitable for those who are already familiar with the relics of old Jerusalem, want to learn more about the history of the ancient city, and expand their perception of it.
