About this experience
Georgia is famous not only for its history, wine, and cuisine, but also for its nature! It seems like everything here is like a whole continent. We invite you to go on a hiking trip through one of the richest regions in flora and fauna on Earth. Dense subtropical forests, endless meadows, flocks of clouds, and powerful waterfalls - sometimes you'll feel like you're not just in a reserve, but in paradise on Earth.
What to expect
The Lagodekhi Reserve is located on the southern slope of the Caucasus Mountains. Sun-warmed foothills, protected from winds, abundant rivers, and refreshing moisture have created a lush subtropical forest on the slope. Huge trees with thick trunks, resembling Ents from the Lord of the Rings saga, spread their green canopies. And below - a damp and shady evergreen understory: mosses, lianas, ferns, ivy. Fast, clear rivers flow through the forest, born in the Caucasus glaciers, forming beautiful powerful waterfalls.
On the way to the reserve, we will tell you about the rich nature of Georgia, the diversity of terrains, climate, flora, and fauna. We will talk about other reserves and national parks, and also tell the story of Lagodekhi itself and its founder - Ludwig Mlokosevich. We will make stops at the local market to buy village cheese, vegetables, and hot bread for a picnic.
Hiking Route
We offer two route options to choose from, each leading to a waterfall.
- The first route to Shromishevi Waterfall is 9 km round trip with an elevation gain of 430 meters.
- The second route to Gurgueniani Waterfall is 13 km round trip with an elevation gain of 600 meters.
Both routes are of moderate difficulty and involve some obstacles: crossing a river on a log, steep ascents with elements of climbing. But all of this will be worth the beauty you will see!
Organizational Details
- The hike is led by either me personally or my partner Ilya - a mountain guide and escort. We have been engaged in active tourism and mountain hiking for over 20 years. We follow all safety measures, provide instructions on difficult sections, and know all the trails very well.
- The hike is not suitable for people with heart problems, asthma, joint diseases, or injuries. Participation of older and middle school-aged children is possible, but under the full control of parents.
- We reach the Lagodekhi Reserve by our car, the road takes about 2 hours one way. The hiking part takes about 6-7 hours.
- Meals are not included in the price, so you need to bring provisions with you for a picnic. You can do this on the way. And on the way back, you can visit a restaurant or cafe.
- The mountain hikes are conducted from April to November, but depend on the weather. In case of rain, we will offer you an alternative, reschedule, or in extreme cases cancel the hike.
