About this experience
Along with the popular landmarks of our region, I invite you to visit places hidden from the eyes of travelers. You will see abandoned watchtowers, medieval arched bridges, structures from the Soviet era, graceful waterfalls, unforgettable landscapes. You will learn interesting facts from the history of Georgia and try to compose your own poem.
What to Expect
This will be a picturesque journey filled with interesting stories. You will learn how a trophy tank from the WWII ended up in the mountains of Adjara, how locals were influenced to convert to Islam, how Muslims and Christians coexist in Adjarian families, the fame of Laz master craftsmen, and much more. So, here is our route:
Confluence of the two main rivers of Adjara - Chorokhi and Adjarskali. They are different in color and almost never mix at this spot. Here, I will tell you about the natural riches of Adjara and Georgia as a whole.
Byzantine fortress of Gvara VI century. We will explore the preserved chambers and underground wine jugs (qvevri), enjoy the view of Machakhela and Chorokhi gorges.
Makhuntseti Waterfall - the highest in Adjara.
Queen Tamar's Bridge (in Makhuntseti). There is a joke that you can write a short poem while crossing this bridge. Are you ready to test this?
Monument to the Adjarian warrior - a symbol that wars and claims to this territory never ceased. The warrior is always on guard, protecting the road to the heart of Adjara.
Aqueduct Bridge. Climbing it, you will have a view of the gorge and river from a height equivalent to a 4-5 story building.
Destroyed wooden mosque, interesting for its ornamentation and unique design. Against its backdrop, we will discuss the region's complex religious history.
Another Queen Tamar's Bridge (in Dandalo). Its arch is higher than many others, sometimes taking your breath away.
Kaviani Fortress - the final highlight of the journey. We will walk 2 km along a forest path that reveals a stunning view of the Adjarskali Gorge. Among locals, there is a legend that this fortress was built in one night in the 12th century upon learning that Seljuk Turk armies were approaching the country.
