About this experience
The Đerdap Gorge is one of the most beautiful places on the Danube River. In ancient times, the Carpathian mountain range split, creating a narrow passage through which the river now flows. You will drive alongside the water and admire the stunning landscapes. You will see where one of the oldest European settlements was located and learn why the sculpture of the Dacian king Decebal has such a defiant look.
What to Expect
Nature's Splendor
You will embark on a journey from Belgrade: part of the way goes through the highway, and part through a road with beautiful landscapes. You will admire the beauty of nature - the mighty Danube River and the cliff walls framing the river. We will tell you which countries are separated by the Đerdap Gorge and at what point the Danube reaches a width of 7 km. You will also hear legends about ancient Argonauts searching for the Golden Fleece.
Fortress and Museum
There will be stops along the way for walks and sightseeing. You will visit the Golubac Fortress, the white stone towers of which resemble a flock of doves perched on the cliff rocks. And at the Lepenski Vir archaeological museum, where you will see the most ancient stone sculptures made by human hands. You will learn who these people were and what mysteries they left to their descendants.
Viewpoints and Boat Trip (in warm season)
We will ascend to several viewpoints of the gorge to enjoy the views of Serbian nature from above. And from May to October, a boat operates in the gorge - in the right season, you can take a boat ride.
