About this experience
During this car tour, you will visit interesting architectural and natural landmarks of Serbia, starting from ancient times, and get acquainted with their history.
Program
- Departure from Belgrade to Smederevo. In the Middle Ages, Smederevo was the capital and the largest city of Serbia. Visit to Smederevo Fortress, built in the 15th century.
- Next stop - Viminacium - archaeological excavations of an ancient Roman city founded in the 1st century AD. One of the largest cities of that era (population of 40,000 inhabitants). The city was the capital and military camp of the Roman province of Upper Moesia. During its heyday, Viminacium was one of the largest Roman cities in the Balkans. Almost all Roman emperors lived here.
- Drive past Srebrno jezero (Silver Lake). The lake's name is due to its pure, transparent water, naturally filtered through many layers of sand.
- Visit the famous medieval fortress of Golubac, built in the 14th century, the reconstruction of which was completed a couple of years ago. The fortress is erected at the entrance to the Golubac Gorge, where the Danube reaches its widest point (6.5 km), and represents a stone guard protecting the Iron Gates.
- Enjoy a one-hour boat ride around the fortress (weather permitting).
- Of course, there will be a fish lunch at one of the restaurants on the Danube's banks, offering delicious fried catfish or pike fillets with local wine varieties.
- Return to Belgrade in the evening.
Route length - 320 km.
