About this experience
This is the place where German history was made, the first books were printed, philosophical theories were born, and the European currency exchange was established. Frankfurt is extremely multifaceted - grasping all its roles at once is not easy, especially if you are here for the first time. I will take you on a route that will give you a full understanding of the city: why Frankfurt is considered the financial capital of Europe, an imperial, musical, and poetic city.
What to expect
City Contrasts
We will start the tour from the St. Paul's Cathedral - the former main Lutheran church of the city. The fact that the first FRG Parliament once met within its walls and John F. Kennedy delivered a speech there is enough to grasp the uniqueness of Frankfurt-am-Main. The city is strewn with contrasts: skyscrapers and medieval architecture, the famous museum embankment and the creativity of artisans, business solemnity and caricatures of politicians. You will see the main square of Frankfurt, which was the first stock exchange in Europe, the Capuchin monastery, the best local jazz clubs, remnants of the Jewish ghetto with commemorative plaques, and even the Rothschild family park.
Human Stories
You will learn about the events that took place on the streets and squares of Frankfurt and who made them happen. Who laid out Römerberg Square and how its construction affected the appearance of nearby neighborhoods, who and when bestowed the status of imperial capital upon the city, why the houses where several generations of the famous bankers dynasty lived did not survive. Here Goethe was born and made famous, the first printer Gutenberg, philosophers Schopenhauer and Fromm, composers Glinka and Tchaikovsky lived and worked. I will tell you how Frankfurt is connected to Russian and Jewish cultures, what great inventions were made by local residents, and you will understand why Frankfurt-am-Main is a truly exceptional city.
Organizational details
If desired, the tour can be conducted by car, in which case the cost will be 150€ per group.
