About this experience
Frankfurt is a relatively small city, not as famous as Paris or Rome. However, here you can witness the history of European architecture, and thus of civilization as a whole. We will discuss the city's past, its key role in German democracy, as well as unique projects for the reconstruction of the Old Town and the organization of the financial center. But most importantly, we will talk about the main epochs of European civilization, and you will learn how to recognize their monuments in any European city. We will delve into architectural styles and discuss how and why they emerged.
What to Expect
Staying within the compact city center, you will see a church that became the cradle of German democracy. Discover the secrets of the Gothic Imperial Cathedral. Take a picture of the most photographed house in Germany. Stroll through the 'Old Town', which did not exist just 6 years ago. And, touching on the topic of skyscrapers, we will find a hidden example of the art nouveau architectural style in a quiet alley.
We will talk about how global historical events, lifestyle, contemporaries' worldview, and technological progress defined the appearance of buildings from the past. And we will recall numerous buildings resembling those we will see on the streets of Frankfurt.
You will learn to walk with interest in any European (and not only!) city and understand why Russia is still part of Europe, what connects Leonardo da Vinci with Turkey and the Moscow Kremlin, and how Frankfurt is linked to Apple, Alfred Nobel, and a Russian engineer.
And for the dessert - I will treat you to traditional drinks, tell you about the most atmospheric places in Frankfurt and its surroundings, and recommend the best bars and restaurants :)
Organizational Details
You will need weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. We will walk the route by foot: the city is small, and at some points of the route, you will be able to sit down and listen to the guide's stories.
