About this experience
For those who are visiting Munich for the first time, this tour is exactly what you need. And for those who have been here before, I will definitely show and tell you something new. I do not promise that you will see only the most beautiful and the best. I want to show Munich as it is: magnificent and down-to-earth, strict and cheerful. On the overview tour with me, you will truly get to know the ancient Munich and feel its modern vibrant spirit!
What awaits you
History and architecture of Munich
We will start our walk at any convenient place for you near the center. At a comfortable pace - calmly or energetically - paying attention to the most important and interesting, I will tell you about the history and architecture of Munich, about famous personalities and modern nuances of life. Munich was once the capital of a sleepy duchy, then became the center of a principality, then a kingdom, and during the 'Third Reich' Munich was planned as the 'Capital of the Movement'. On the streets and squares of the city, you will learn about the city's 800-year history!
The most important attractions
The route and the number of sights depend on the meeting place and your interests. During our walking tour, you will see the huge area of the Royal Residence, the Classical National Theatre, the old Ducal Courtyard, the luxurious Marienplatz square, the magnificent Odeonsplatz, the mystical Frauenkirche Cathedral and the oldest church of St. Peter, the world-famous Hofbräuhaus beer hall, and much more.
Munich 'from the inside'
You will get to know the ways of the local inhabitants, taking a look at the city 'from the inside': we will visit hidden courtyards and passages, explore cozy places where the people of Munich gather, you will find out which establishments for relaxation and dining they prefer. You will feel the energy of the most successful city of the FRG, and I am sure that you will definitely like the Bavarian capital and you will return to Munich more than once!
Interesting facts about the city
You will learn why Munich is called 'Athens on the Isar'; where 'Coward's Alley' is located; how to determine what beer Bavarians prefer and in which establishment 'all class contradictions are erased'. I will definitely recommend places for independent exploration of Munich, tell you how to use public transport, which museums are worth visiting, which 'right' restaurants and beer halls to go to, and where to enjoy exclusive or affordable shopping.
Additional information
If desired and by prior arrangement, I will conduct an extended 3-hour walking tour or, after the 2-hour walk in the old town, we will spend an additional hour on public transport to the modern symbols of the Bavarian capital - the BMW Museum and the Olympic Park. I will tell you fun facts about the history of this area, about the controversial past of the BMW concern and its current economic situation, as well as orient you in the museum exhibitions.
