About this experience
The flame burning in the heart of Apsheron will be our beacon on this journey. You will travel the road of ancient caravans, delve into the history of Zoroastrianism at the Atashgah Temple, discover the traces of the Roman legion in the Ramana fortress, and see the eternal flames of Mount Yanardag.
What to expect
The Fiery History of the Atashgah Temple
First, the Silk Road trail will lead us to the ancient fire temple Atashgah - a place where iconic names, histories, and religions intertwined. Here we will talk about Zoroastrianism and Hinduism, Alexander Dumas and Indira Gandhi, Nobel laureates and Mendeleev, the Romanovs and the Rothschilds. You will see a sacred place where ancient Zoroastrians found their divinity, and Hindus found solace. You will also hear the story of the local Aladdin lamp and the birth of the "Oil Civilization": because it was here that the invisible front line in the battle between the Russian Empire and America for global oil dominance ran.
Ramana - the Fiery Fortress of Apsheron
Caravans following the Silk Road route relied on beacons - watchtower fortresses, one of which we will visit. In the mysterious fortress of Ramana, you will walk through the inner courtyard and dizzying spiral staircase, immerse yourself in the medieval history of this place, and from the top, you will see the sprawling oil lakes scattered with towers from the Soviet era.
The Fires of Mount Yanardag
After stories about the eternal flames of Apsheron and a journey through the oil fields that destroyed these fires, it's time to see the Azerbaijani wonder with your own eyes. On the "burning mountain" Yanardag, you will observe the flame bursting from the ground and surviving to this day. There is no better ending imaginable for our "fiery" journey!
