About this experience
This excursion is a true Azerbaijani exotic experience known worldwide. We will visit the Ateshgah temple complex and the Yanardag flaming mountain: pilgrims from all over the world used to come here. I will tell you about the ancient mono-religion, the triad of Zoroastrianism, unusual rituals, and help you feel the magic of the Land of Fire.
What to Expect
"House of Fire"
Holy Ateshgah temple was revered by Zoroastrians, Hindus, and Sikhs. Destroyed in the 7th century, it "rose from the ashes" in the 14th. Today it is a pentagonal complex with an open courtyard and a central temple-altar. Museum exhibits are located in the former cells. By exploring each of them, you will learn who the temple inhabitants were, what they believed in, how they lived, why they tortured themselves. Near the eternal flame of the altar, you will feel the sacred aura of these places. We will listen to the ancient mantra and, if lucky, witness a Hindu wedding ceremony, specially held to worship this sanctity.
Flaming Mountain
We will then head to the natural monument Yanardag: on the hillside in the village of Muhammadli, flames have been dancing for centuries due to gas erupting from the earth's depths. These sacred fires were once considered a cult place for fire worshippers. I will explain why they went out and tell you about the strange rituals of the Zoroastrians.
Additionally, we will visit a small museum where you will learn about the wonders of Azerbaijan: the burning land and water, mud volcanoes, and see household items found in the Absheron area.
