About this experience
Istanbul will impress you with its blend of different cultures, deep history, fantastic panoramas, and friendly character. I will tell you about the times when the city was the capital of the great Ottoman Empire. And also about what the metropolis lives by today: its traditions, cuisine, people, and colorful districts.
What to Expect
Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia, and Blue Mosque
You will visit the ancient Hippodrome – the heart of sports and political life of Constantinople. Explore the mosaic-decorated Blue Mosque and see the famous Hagia Sophia cathedral. I will reveal how it is connected with Princess Olga and why Vladimir the Great's messengers said that "it is held by golden chains in the sky." And also share details of Hagia Sophia's recent transition from a Christian cathedral to a mosque.
Topkapi Palace and Basilica Cistern
One of the most interesting places in Istanbul – Topkapi Palace, where sultans lived and worked for 400 years. You will walk through its luxurious halls and learn about the Janissaries. In the Basilica Cistern, the largest underground water reservoir in Constantinople, you will see ancient giant columns, the marble Medusa head, and hear which famous movie scenes were filmed here.
