What to expect
Life in Tenerife in different eras
The hiking route will go through one of the most important archaeological areas of the island to the oldest lighthouse on Tenerife, dividing the island into west and east. You will learn about the different stages of the region's development: from pre-Spanish times to the present day. I will talk about the authentic traditions of the Guanche aborigines, who used endemic poisonous plants to fish, and show where centuries ago the Canarians harvested valuable natural preservatives - sea salt. You will stroll along the vineyards of the DO Abona region, famous for its white wines, and see how tomatoes were grown for export to the Old World on the arid volcanic plains of the past century. And you will see what the everyday life of Canarian goat shepherds was like, whose milk is used to make delicate cheese!
Environmental trends on the island
Along the way, I will talk about the consequences of global warming on the island, which is "drowning" in flowers and the Atlantic all year round. You will learn about how a garbage dump was turned into a botanical garden with the largest variety of palm tree species in the world, and about the peculiarities of growing Canarian bananas. You will learn to distinguish eco-friendly products and learn about ways to separate waste that can be applied at home. Also, using the example of the island, I will talk about fast-living and slow-living trends and the impact they have on our lives.
🐠 After the rejuvenating hike, you will bathe in luxurious natural pools, away from the tourist routes, and get to know the endemic fauna. In addition, the program includes a small picnic with "km 0" products in the best Canarian traditions.
Organizational details
The picnic is included in the price of the tour, no additional expenses are expected.
