Gran Canaria is a paradise for trekking enthusiasts, mountain hikers, and nature lovers! We will head to the town of Firgas near Las Palmas to walk through the most beautiful ravine in northern Gran Canaria, Azuahé. During this trekking excursion, you will hear your echo in the mountain valley, walk on a rope road, swim in the cascades of the mountain ravine, have a picnic in the fir forest, and enjoy the incredible Canarian landscapes!
What to Expect
Breathtaking Views of Azuahé Ravine
From the Saint Roque Square in Firgas, we will head towards the protected Azuahé Ravine. Descending along a narrow path, you will reach an observatory platform that offers a stunning view of the ravine! On a clear day, you can see Mount Teide in Tenerife, the towns of Galdar and Firgas. Not far from this spot, we will explore the aqueduct from the late 15th century, stretching 17 km across Gran Canaria.
Ruins of the Legendary Spa-Hotel
Further down into the picturesque ravine, you will encounter the ruins of a former 19th-century spa-hotel, whose fame once resonated throughout Gran Canaria and Western Europe. Hundreds of European aristocrats gathered at the healing hot waters of the Azuahé Ravine! I will tell you the sad history of this place, which was once a symbol of luxury.
Connecting with the Nature of Gran Canaria
We will pass through the Canarian Laurisilva, a rare type of forest consisting of laurel and fir trees, and during the trek, we will stop for a picnic surrounded by stunning landscapes. Then, you will encounter a rope path, several ascents and descents surrounded by bamboo groves, agave, aloe, stone roses, ferns, and other amazing plants! And during the final ascent through rural lands, you may come across small flocks of sheep and goats peacefully grazing on the slopes of the ravine.
Organizational Details
- The hiking route in Azuahé Ravine is approximately 7 km long with minor descents and ascents.
- Transfer from the city of Las Palmas and back is included in the excursion price.
- Don't forget to wear comfortable clothes and shoes!
