About this experience
To discover the greatness and beauty of nature in Armenia, you need to embark on a journey with me through the Lori Canyon. The spectacle of the Lori Canyon amazes everyone who finds themselves here. Towering cliffs reaching towards the sky, ancient monasteries in the greenery of forests, magnificent caves, and picturesque villages – the entire environment of the canyon carefully preserves incredibly magical places of wild nature and human creations. Down the canyon, in the valley, flows the Debed River with a peaceful murmur, as if echoing an ancient melody. I will introduce you to the best stories and creations of this area, colorful memories of which will delight you for a long time.
Program
- Pushkin Pass (Pushkin's Armenian Sites). You will head to the pass, through which in June 1829 A. S. Pushkin rode on horseback following the road to Arzrum with the victorious Russian army. We will pass through many places, even where one of the legendary meetings and farewell of two geniuses of Russian literature took place. You will hear stories about the great poet's stay in Armenia. And from the enormous height of the pass, you will be treated to wonderful views, where it seems that a moment lasts longer than a century...
- Dzoraget Canyon. Towering cliffs reaching towards the sky, magnificent caves, picturesque villages, and the Dzoraget River echoing an ancient melody. A walk to the edge and along this canyon never fails to leave a strong impression.
- Lori Canyon. Then our path leads through Armenian and Greek villages surrounded by majestic-graceful mountain landscapes. You will admire the canyon landscapes in the village of Odzun, and then, as if along the steep slope of a sheer cliff, descend to the road towards the Debed River, to ascend again towards Sanahin.
- Sanahin and Akhtala Monasteries. 10th-century monasteries in the villages of the same name are part of the UNESCO list. They are built amidst beautiful nature, surrounded by forested mountains, and represent unique complexes of secular and spiritual structures. Here you will learn about the traditions and peculiarities of Armenian architecture and feel the medieval spirit.
- Armenian Khachkars. There are many khachkars in the area – traditional stone crosses. You will see the most unusual one. I will explain what Armenian crosses typically represent and what sets this one apart.
- Lunch. During the lunch break at one of the colorful local establishments, you will be introduced to dishes of the national cuisine.
