About this experience
To discover the majesty and beauty of Armenian nature, you need to join me on a journey through Lori Gorge. The sights of Lori Canyon astound everyone who finds themselves here. Vertical cliffs soaring towards the sky, ancient monasteries surrounded by forest greenery, marvelous caves, and picturesque villages - the entire environment of the gorge carefully preserves incredibly wonderful places of wild nature and human creativity. Along the gorge, in the lowland, with a peaceful rumble, like an echo of an ancient melody, flows the Debed River. I will introduce you to the best stories and creations of this area, colorful memories of which will delight you for a long time.
Itinerary
- Pushkin Pass (Pushkin's Places in Armenia). You will visit the pass where in June 1829 A.S. Pushkin rode on horseback as he followed the road to Ardzhurum with the victorious Russian army. We will pass through many places, including where one of the legendary meetings and farewells of two geniuses of Russian literature took place. You will hear stories about the great poet's stay in Armenia. From the great height of the pass, you will be able to enjoy magnificent views, where it seems that a moment lasts longer than a century...
- Dzoraget Canyon. Vertical cliffs, marvelous caves, picturesque villages, and the Dzoraget River like an echo of an ancient melody reaching towards the sky. A walk along the edge and through this canyon never fails to make a strong impression.
- Lori Gorge. Our path then leads through Armenian and Greek villages, surrounded by majestic-graceful mountain landscapes. You will admire the landscapes of the gorge in the village of Odzun, and then descend down the road to the Debed River, only to ascend again towards Sanahin.
- Sanahin and Akhtala Monasteries. 10th-century monasteries in the villages of the same name are included in the UNESCO list. Built amidst beautiful nature, surrounded by wooded mountains, they represent unique complexes of secular and spiritual structures. Here you will learn about the traditions and features of Armenian architecture and feel the medieval spirit.
- Armenian Khachkars. The area is full of khachkars - traditional stone crosses. You will see the most unique one. I will tell you what Armenian crosses usually look like and what makes this one stand out.
- Lunch. During the lunch break at one of the picturesque local establishments, you will get acquainted with dishes of the national cuisine.
