About this experience
The main attractions show us only the 'facade' of the city. Its soul lies in the courtyards hidden from strangers' eyes. Courtyards in Yerevan are very different. Some are imbued with the spirit of antiquity, in others you can hear the sincere laughter of children and smell the delicious pastries. I invite you to take a soulful stroll, where the city will reveal itself from a new perspective and tell you what it used to be like and how it lives today.
What to Expect
Our journey will take us through the inconspicuous streets and courtyards of Yerevan, connecting the main attractions of the center - Republic Square, Cascade, Northern Avenue, and others.
- We start from Republic Square but will not follow the usual tourist routes; instead, we will dive into an atmospheric 19th-century courtyard that combines an art space and a cafe. Stepping in here, you will feel like you have entered a magical time when Yerevan was just beginning to flourish. The authentic atmosphere of the past is preserved in every tile, every bench, and every tree in this corner.
- On Anrapetutyun Street, we will admire a beautiful 19th-century building made of black tuff, peek into a unique courtyard that has preserved its authenticity and miraculously saved itself from the ugly garages that fill many other nooks in Yerevan.
- Further along our route will be the 'boxers' courtyard.' The story behind the name is prosaic - indeed, boxers train in one of the buildings here. The courtyard is very picturesque, and you can often meet locals here playing backgammon.
- Next, we will visit the authentic 'Persian courtyard,' preserved since the 18th century. Nearby, also deep in the streets, we will find the ancient functioning Zoravor Church, where the relics of St. Ananias are kept. This is one of the oldest surviving Christian temples in Yerevan.
- On the way towards the Opera and Ballet Theater, we will visit the filming location of the movie 'Our Courtyard,' which tells the story of a typical Yerevan courtyard with its intrigues, joys, and sorrows. We will end our soulful mini-journey at the Cascade.
And what about the gastronomic surprise?
It will await you in one of the courtyards. Armenian flatbreads lamajoun, with juicy filling, tender in the middle, and crispy at the edges.
