About this experience
Join me on a fascinating journey to the ancient temples of Rhodes! You will learn about the establishment of Christianity on the island and the religious traditions of the local population. You will admire ancient Byzantine frescoes and icons. And you will also converse with monks whose depth of knowledge is astounding, and whose views extend far beyond dogma.
What to expect
Tsambika Monastery. Decode its unconventional Orthodox architecture and see the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, known far beyond the island.
Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in Asklipio. This Byzantine church is famous for its fusion of architectural styles and unique frescoes. As well as wall paintings depicting scenes from the Apocalypse of John the Theologian. We will discuss the content of the 4th most mystical Gospel book: the symbolism of its plots and characters.
Monastery of St. John the Evangelist. Here you will see the famous image of the Beekeeper Virgin Mary and learn about its deep philosophical content directly from its creators.
Church of Panagia Pantelimon. It houses valuable Christian relics, including particles of the Holy Pantelimon's remains.
Church of the Funduklis. You will discover how the miniature creation of the Funduklis family is related to the plague that broke out on the island.
Organizational details
- The tour is conducted in a Peugeot 107 car (accommodating 2 adults and 1 child). Transportation is included in the price.
- Tickets to the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin are paid separately — 3 euros per person.
