Cyprus is often called the "island of saints". Here you will find the miraculous Icon of the Mother of God of Kikkos and the place where Saint Nicholas of Myra lived and prayed. You will visit amazing ancient churches, admire frescoes and mosaics. We will tell you about the spread of Christianity in Cyprus and the important religious events that took place here.
What to Expect
Orthodox Cyprus
You will explore the most important shrines of the island. The excursion program includes:
- Catacombs of Ayia Solomoni - a unique Christian sanctuary of Cyprus. You will see chapels carved in the mountain with ancient inscriptions on the walls and learn about the story of the Palestinian refugee Solomoni.
- Monastery of St. Neophytos - you will venerate the relics of the Saint and visit the cave cell where he lived. Optionally, you will also visit the museum with archaeological finds, ancient icons, and church utensils.
- Church of St. Paraskevi - one of the oldest temples on the island. Through it, you will decipher the features of Byzantine cross-in-square architecture. We will also tell you about the martyr Paraskevi of Rome, who lived in the 2nd century.
- Kykkos Monastery - a fairy-tale place in the Troodos mountains. It will captivate you with its magnificent architecture, rich frescoes, and mosaic paintings depicting the history of Christianity. Additionally, here is kept the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, believed to be painted by the Apostle Luke.
- Church of the Holy Cross - you will hear the legend of its origin and enjoy the charming village of Omodos where it is located.
