Borjomi-Uplistsikhe. Green paradise and cave city
About this experience
In one day, you will visit one of the most picturesque corners of Georgia and one of the most significant sites for understanding the country's culture. First, the path through a picturesque gorge leads to Borjomi: here you will try the country's symbolic water and enjoy the landscapes on the cable car ride. And then you will trace the origins of Sakartvelo in the caves of Uplistsikhe - an ancient pagan city.
What to expect
Healing water and wonderful landscapes of Borjomi
Already on the way, you will understand why Borjomi and its surroundings are called a green paradise: incredible views of the forested mountains of the Borjomi Gorge unfold along the way. You will learn about the location of mineral springs, archaeological excavations in this land, and the development of the resort town. In the Borjomi City Park, you will admire the waterfall, hear about the Georgian Prometheus, and of course, taste mineral water in an elegant pavilion. And then you will ascend to the observation platform on the cable car ride (it is new, but the retro design has been preserved) - here awaits the best view of Borjomi!
Uplistsikhe: pre-Christian Georgia and life in caves
In the cave city on the banks of the Kura River, you will be transported to the end of the 2nd - beginning of the 1st millennium BC. Getting to know this place will be an important stage in understanding Georgian culture. You will learn about life in pagan Georgia, the periods of Uplistsikhe's prosperity and decline. You will explore fragments of cult structures carved into the rock, residential "rooms", the Hellenistic theater and throne hall, and also enjoy the panorama of the Kura.
