Borjomi, Vardzia and the land of Javakheti
About this experience
Allow yourself a sip of the famous mineral water straight from the source and enjoy the beauty of the Borjomi Gorge. Immerse yourself in the history of the Middle Ages in the grand cave city of the 12-13th centuries, a symbol of the Golden Age of Georgia. See the ancient fortresses of the ethnic region of Javakheti and visit the shore of the largest lake in Georgia.
What to expect
Borjomi - a place that glorified Georgia
Located at an altitude of 800-900 meters above sea level, the city is surrounded by a national park of astonishing beauty. Mikhail Nikolayevich Romanov, who inherited it, established a European-level resort here and built a palace in the Mauritian style, which you will definitely get acquainted with on the tour. You will also take a walk in the city park with a small cable car and, of course, visit the famous spring with mineral water, the history of which I will tell you in detail.
'If anyone wants to see wonders, let them visit Vardzia'
The cave city 100 km south of Borjomi - a symbol of Georgia's Golden Age, the time of Queen Tamar's rule. Carved rock complex dated back to the 12th century represented a complex 13-level system of interconnected rooms, including libraries, living rooms, streets, squares, and churches. Only a small part of the city remains, but it will allow you to not only feel the spirit of antiquity but also mentally reconstruct the image of the monumental structure, with my help recounting the complex historical path Vardzia went through.
In the land of ancient Javakhs
The return journey to Tbilisi will pass along the southern border of the country, through Javakheti, where you will see the largest lake in Georgia - Paravani. This ethnic region is notable for a large number of well-preserved ancient fortresses, making the journey to the capital extremely interesting and rich in excellent photographs.
Organizational details
- Visiting Lake Paravani is seasonal, so we can replace this point with a visit to the Rabati Fortress.
- Entrance tickets to the Borjomi City Park (2 lari per person) and Vardzia (7 lari per person) are not included in the price.

Vardzia is something you can't miss in Georgia. And if you are lucky to have a good guide, you won't even notice the long way from Tbilisi and back. I was lucky! Marina is undoubtedly the best guide I've had in Georgia. I really enjoyed it.
