About this experience
Well-known sights for an outsider are just architecture from a foreign city. I will help you sense the atmosphere of Berlin and feel like a person who walks along Unter den Linden, looks at the Reichstag, and strolls after work on Alexanderplatz every day. You will see the multicultural capital of Germany, its history, and monuments as the locals do - enjoying jokes on sharp topics, remembering funny names of locations, and admiring the vibrant city.
What to expect
Berlin Characters
This tour will immerse you in the natural urban environment: you will not only walk in postcard-worthy places and where the locals like to spend their time, but also hear what nicknames the citizens give to famous landmarks. You will learn where in Berlin you can find the 'egg-cooking pot,' the 'soup plate,' and 'Honecker's Disneyland.' You will peep into the 'decayed tooth,' find yourself in the 'lungs of Berlin,' and get acquainted with the visual embodiment of the hero whom the locals urge to take the reins of power again.
City on the Map of World History
As you stroll through the capital of Germany, you will see the most famous landmarks, and my stories will bring to life important historical events. Among the iconic places of Berlin is the Reichstag - the city's main symbol, conquered by the soldiers of the Soviet army in 1945. Also, the alley Under the Lime Trees, or Unter den Linden, shrouded in legends, the mysteries of which I will share. I will take you to the Berlin Wall and explain what this stone border means for the German people and all of Europe. I will show you the famous Brandenburg Gate, where you will make a wish, and the largest Protestant church in Germany - the Berlin Cathedral.
Unique to Berlin
You will visit the Museum Island and understand why Berlin was called the 'Athens on the Spree.' Learn the history of the 'secret' quarter of St. Nicholas and the Red Town Hall, Neptune Fountain, and the Television Tower. In the Hackesche Hoefe, you will travel to Berlin at the beginning of the 20th century, and at the beautiful Gendarmenmarkt square, you will find the best local chocolate. I will talk about Berlin's neo-Baroque and 'Berlin's New York' - Potsdamer Platz, where you will see the first city traffic light. And in the Check Point Charlie area, we will talk about the realities and myths of the Cold War and remember the Trabant car.
