About this experience
Embark on the 'Wings of Tatev', a cableway journey to the monastery perched atop a cliff. Explore the Christian history at Khor Virap at the foot of Mount Ararat and witness one of Armenia's most beautiful waterfalls. Admire the Noravank Monastery amid Martian-like rock formations. Through my narratives, these sites will help you understand Armenia's heritage. And with our cuisine, you'll experience a traditional Armenian family lunch!
What to Expect
Monasteries of Armenia - the Harmony of Man and Nature
Early in the morning, we will follow the Silk Road to the Khor Virap Monastery for a breathtaking view of Mount Ararat bathed in morning sunlight. Explore the 7th-century sanctuary and learn about the establishment of Christianity in Armenia, its ancient capital Artashat, and descend into the underground chamber where Gregory the Illuminator was imprisoned.
Next stop is the Noravank Monastic Complex, seemingly placed on another planet. Enjoy the surrounding red cliffs and river gorge, and discover the traditional stone crosses - khachkars.
But you won't drive to the final point of the route, you'll fly! On the Wings of Tatev cableway, the world's longest, enjoy unforgettable views of winding serpentine roads and towering mountains. At the cliff's peak awaits the Tatev Monastery - a complex that housed a university and repository in the Middle Ages. Marvel at the craftsmanship of the artisans who built the churches here and find the best lookout point.
Cooking and Dining Armenian-style
After Noravank Monastery, we'll dine at a family-owned restaurant nearby and savor authentic Armenian barbecue, dolma, or zhingyalov hac.
After lunch, we'll head to a picturesque canyon and see the 18-meter high Shaki Waterfall.
