About this experience
Barcelona was not built in a day. From Antiquity to the present day, over the years it has become like a matryoshka doll. We will trace through the epochs and reveal Barcelona in all its diversity. We will explore Gaudi's creations, stroll through medieval quarters, peek into secret courtyards, and learn what the city is all about. I will help decipher what you see and make you fall in love with Barcelona wholeheartedly!
What to Expect
Catalan Modernism
Our walk will start not in the Old Town, where tours usually begin, but in the magnificent and luxurious realm of modernism - Eixample. Expect wide avenues, incredible buildings by Antonio Gaudi and other outstanding architects, as well as the history of how many small towns in the 19th century began to unite in Greater Barcelona. You will find out what apples and a Barcelona city block have in common, as well as how lollipops, Salvador Dali, and a 19th-century Barcelona magnate are connected.
Legendary Middle Ages
Next, we will arrive at the grand entrance to Barcelona - Placa de Catalunya. We will stroll down La Rambla boulevard and learn about its infamous past. You will see the magnificent Cathedral, which two centuries ago was the scariest church in the world, and discover why there are 13 geese living there. Feel the spirit of the past as we search for the Jewish quarter and admire the grandeur of the present at Placa de Sant Jaume, where city celebrations take place.
From Romanesque Era to Antiquity
On our way to the historical part of the city, we will encounter dragons and knights, ancient temples, and the palace where the Kings of Spain welcomed Columbus. You will not notice how one era replaces another - and the ancient heritage of the Roman founders of Barcelona will appear before us.
Centuries-old History
Reaching the heart of ancient Barcelona, we will catch our breath in the beautiful Parc de la Ciutadella, where a fortress used to stand, and now you can feed parrots by hand. Then we will look at a large map of old Barcelona, relate it to everything we have seen, and triumphantly conclude the walk under the arches of the Arc de Triomf.
Bonus
If you wish, for an additional fee, the tour can be extended with an unusual outing - a labyrinth in a romantic park, where it is so nice to hide from the summer heat. To do this, you will need to take a 15-minute metro ride.
