About this experience
Arezzo is one of the most elegant cities in Tuscany. It is a treasure trove of churches and artistic masterpieces, as well as the setting for the film 'Life is Beautiful'. We will follow in the footsteps of the main characters, admire the architecture of the San Domenico church, Piazza Grande, and the Basilica of San Francesco. And step by step, we will discover the beauty and uniqueness of this city.
What to Expect
In Arezzo, you will travel through different eras like a time machine: from the Etruscans, Romans, Middle Ages, and Renaissance to modern reality. So, the program includes:
- We will start the walk with the San Domenico church and its wonderful painted cross by Cimabue. The cathedral steps were filmed in the movie more than once. The church itself is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture, adorned with stained glass by the French master Guillaume de Marseille.
- We will see the heart of the city – Piazza Grande, where important city events take place: a Saracen knight tournament and an antique fair. The square is adorned with the Vasari Loggias and the ancient church of Santa Maria della Pieve.
- We will definitely visit the Basilica of San Francesco, which houses a cycle of frescoes depicting the history of the True Cross, painted by the great Piero della Francesca.
- We will conclude our tour at the Church of Saints Flora and Lucilla, where important works of the Italian architect and painter Giorgio Vasari are kept.
As we stroll through the center, we will pay attention to posters with photos from the film, helping to understand where the scene was filmed. I will tell you why the painting received its name, as well as about the knight tournament and the golden spear and about famous people who were born in Arezzo. Legends and funny stories will also be included!
