About this experience
During a leisurely 2-hour walk, you will understand the daily life of gladiators and rulers in ancient Rome. I will tell you where fighters trained and whether there was room for love and friendship in their lives. I will show you the remains of imperial baths and reveal how the father and son Flavians built the Colosseum. You will also learn about the favorite foods of ancient Romans and where they bought groceries.
What to Expect
Gladiator School and Colosseum
You will visit the ruins of the Great Gladiator School - Ludus Magnus, located behind the Colosseum. I will tell you about the career path of the fighters, how they were divided among themselves with the help of costumes, and how their personal lives unfolded. You will also explore the Colosseum itself - the largest amphitheater of the ancient era. And you will learn about the performances that took place in its arena.
Emperors' Fates and Baths
I will show you the remains of the baths built by Roman emperors and tell you how they were arranged. You will hear about the life of the first ruler of the Roman Empire, Octavian Augustus, why Nero's palace was called the 'Golden House,' and how the Flavians built the Colosseum.
Circo Massimo and Lottery
Next, we will head to Circo Massimo - the largest chariot racing stadium in Ancient Rome. I will tell you about the chariot races that took place here and how people treated the charioteers. I will also explain how various prizes and gifts emerged thanks to these games - the prototype of the modern lottery.
Red Light District and Ancient Roman Food
By the end of the tour, we will reach the Red Light District, where craft workshops, brothels, and a market once coexisted. You will learn about the diet of people in ancient times and the most common dishes that appeared on their tables.
