What to Expect
Colosseum and Gladiator Battles
A visit to the Colosseum will reveal the idea behind the creation of this colossal structure, tell about the long and cruel festivities held for its opening, and explain the state significance of the doctrine 'Bread and Circuses!' You will uncover the secrets of the ingenious architecture of the Colosseum with its many complex mechanisms and a network of underground tunnels. From the upper rows of the amphitheater, you will see the giant arena where gladiators, captured soldiers, and slaves fought to the death with predators and each other. You will learn how gladiators lived, trained, how much they earned, and how the crowd 'voted' for them. All this will help you feel the scale and contradictions of the era of Ancient Rome.
Roman Forum - the Heart of Ancient Life
Continuing the journey into ancient times, you will visit the Roman Forum - the center of political, religious, and economic life of Ancient Rome. Governance of the great Empire was conducted from here, senators held meetings, and laws were issued. In the street crowd, you could meet wealthy matrons on litters, Greek doctors, Spanish sailors, Egyptian priests, women of low social responsibility from Cyprus, and traders from the Middle East. You will learn what the rich and aristocrats could afford, how they partied in Ancient Rome, how much slaves cost, and what dishes were at the peak of ancient gastronomic fashion. You will be amazed by the ancient Roman interior and clothing, and then walk along the Sacred Roman Road, which has been around for almost 3,000 years!
A Glimpse into Eternity from the Palatine Hill
According to legend, the history of Rome begins from the Palatine Hill - and here, on the Palatine Hill, Rome will cease to be the capital of the Empire. You will see the preserved ruins of the palaces of Augustus, Tiberius, Domitian, and learn why by the end of the republic, mainly the rich and aristocrats of Rome lived here. The Palatine Hill will reward you with a panoramic view of the Great Circus, where chariot races were held, and a brightly green park with tall pine trees and orange trees.
On the tour, you will see and visit
- Colosseum
- Roman Forum, Temple of Vesta, and Forum of Caesar
- Palatine Hill and Farnese Gardens
- Forum, Market, and Trajan's Column
