About this experience
For those who truly want to understand Rome, a visit to the Colosseum and Roman Forums is a must. An informal and thoughtful walk to the most obvious ancient monuments will help unravel the mysteries, intrigues, and pivotal events of Rome's history. You will imagine the daily life of ancient Romans, explore the Eternal City from the Palatine Hill, and then separate myths from facts in the legendary Colosseum through the eyes of an ancient engineer.
What to Expect
Ancient Rome's Daily Life
Our expedition will start with a leisurely stroll through the center of Ancient Rome - the Forum. This square is a world record holder for the number of historical events per square meter. As you explore the picturesque ruins, you will vividly imagine how this place looked and what life was like a couple of millennia ago. I will tell you about the daily life of the ancient Romans, and you will see that they lived almost like modern people (just without electricity and smartphones).
Panorama from the Palatine Hill
After taking photos of the Colosseum from the most original angle, we will move to the Palatine Hill. You will learn why the hill was once the Roman elite's neighborhood and later transformed into an imperial residence, on the remains of which one of the most notable Roman popes built a villa. Here, we will admire the remains of the luxurious palace and then appreciate the wonderful panorama from the hill's viewpoint.
Colosseum through the Engineer's Eyes
As a dessert, we will meet the Colosseum, the symbol of Rome and the most recognizable monument of antiquity. Despite its worldwide fame, the bloodiest entertainment center in the history of show business is shrouded in mystery, and we will try to unravel them. Who, when, and why initiated this absurd project? What engineering tricks were used in the construction of the Colosseum? What happened in the arena, and who were the gladiators - doomed slaves or celebrities of their time? You will find answers to these and many other questions - less obvious but equally intriguing.
Roman History: Learn and Remember
When travelers try to recall their school course on ancient history, disconnected names and events usually come to mind. To refresh knowledge and fill in the gaps, during the walk, we will avoid boring dates and facts and talk about the pivotal events of Rome's glorious past.
