8000 years of Georgian winemaking history
About this experience
Do you think people only travel to Kakheti for Georgian wine? No! The treasure trove of wine is all over Georgia! The Kartli region, where I invite you, is rich in indigenous grape varieties: Goruli Mtsvane, Shavkapito, Tavkveri. Along the way to Mtskheta, we will visit the winemaker Gogi. In a warm atmosphere, we will listen to his story, taste the wine, and find out how he survived after meeting the killer Pablo Escobar.
What to expect
- Jvari Monastery - a place indicated by God. "The faith of Christ shone on the Iberian Kingdom with great spiritual light, and the glory of the Crucified on the Cross will abide in it until the end of time." With these words, Saint Nino foresaw the construction of Jvari.
- Mtskheta and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral. In the ancient capital of the Iberian Kingdom, we will talk about the establishment of the Georgian statehood and Christianity. We will visit Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, where the seamless robe of the Lord is buried. I will tell you the history of the cathedral in detail and take you through the colorful streets of Mtskheta, where you can buy souvenirs.
- Gogi Dvalishvili's wine cellar "Territory of love". Gogi inherited a vineyard and cellar from his father. Since childhood, his father taught him to make Georgian wine. The tradition continues: today Gogi passes on his experience to his son. You will listen to an exciting lecture from Gogi about winemaking and definitely appreciate his wine. The word about it reached even Colombia! And once, such an extraordinary person as Pablo Escobar's killer came to Gogi's cellar...
You will learn:
- Why Gogi survived after meeting Escobar's killer. And what happened to the mercenary after the wine tasting.
- Why real Georgian wine is made in clay vessels called qvevri
- Which wine varieties you can try in different regions of Georgia
Also:
- How the Silk Road became the Military-Georgian Road
- Why Mtskheta was a meeting place of the West and the East
- Why the Georgian national cross is made of two vine branches
And much more!
